Oslo, March 9 (Hibya) – After five months of darkness, the inhabitants of the Longyearbyen settlement in Norway’s northernmost Svalbard island group have seen the light of day.
Longyearbyen residents have been waiting for the sun to return since October. About 2,000 people in one of the northernmost settlements in the world celebrated the return of the sun with the traditional “Festival of the Sun”.
Although the weather was not as sunny as in previous years, the residents of Longyearbyen enjoyed the joy of the sun once again with songs and dances. Anna-Lena Ekeblad, who has lived in Svalbard for 29 years, expressed the sun's return with the words “Life is coming back”.
